Friends of Hospice

Friends of Hospice is a unique, not-for profit, community based organization committed to meeting the needs of the terminally ill, their families, the professionals who serve them and the community.

Services currently provided include:

  • Comprehensive information & referral on area programs that provide hospice, palliative care services, and bereavement services.

  • Community, university, and public programs

  • Lending library of books, articles, professional journals and video materials pertaining to hospice, palliative care, death and dying issues and bereavement.

  • It is the mission of Friends of Hospice to be an independent, community-based resource, advocating the hospice philosophy; providing information, education and referrals to link community members with hospice services; promoting collaboration among providers; expanding access to hospice care; and initiating new knowledge.

Girl Scouting In Nassau County started in 1917. A non-profit organization, Girl Scouts of Nassau County is chartered by GSUSA to develop, maintain and administer Girl Scouting in Nassau County. The Nassau County Council, (one of 316 nationwide), serves girls and adults through 36 local geographic Girl Scout Associations throughout all of Nassau County's school districts.

The Manhasset Women's Coalition Against Breast Cancer has established itself as an important means by which the women of Manhasset, Long Island unite in the fight against breast cancer. MWCABC began in 1997 from the efforts of a small group of women in Manhasset that shared a concern about the high incidence of breast cancer on Long Island. These women set about creating an organization dedicated to raising money for breast cancer research, education and support programs. In 1998, MWCABC was incorporated and recognized by the IRS as a not-for-profit corporation. Over the past 10 years, MWCABC has grown dramatically. Our all-volunteer membership includes almost 200 members and our signature Ladies' Night Out fundraising event attracts 500 guests.

The Manhasset Youth Council (MYC) has been in operation since 1980. It was formed to address the needs of Manhasset teenagers and is committed to expanding and improving the scope of activities available to young people in the community. The MYC follows the "youth empowerment" philosophy and helps youngsters develop leadership, responsibility, self-esteem, and social consciousness. The council strives to act as a liaison between youth and the organizations of Manhasset; to address the needs of parents and youth; to perform outreach; and to network among youth, adult, and community organizations.

The Manhasset Youth Council's programs include: meetings, regularly scheduled social activities and community service projects during the school year and special summer trips (referred to as S.H.O.P.- Summer At Home Opportunities Program). The MYC hosts an annual dinner with senior citizens.

The Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence provides comprehensive services that focus on the safety and well being of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. They also work to ensure societal accountability, improve institutional responsiveness to victims, and increase public awareness in order to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault.

North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center, founded in 1953, is the leading children's mental health agency on Long Island providing an extensive and comprehensive range of mental health services for children, youth, and families regardless of income.

Their staff is composed of expert, highly-trained, experienced social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and alcohol and drug counselors who provide diagnosis and treatment for children, youth, and families offering individual, group, and family therapy; substance abuse treatment; as well as advocacy and case management services. In addition to these core services, the North Shore Child and Family Guidance also offers a variety of community services, programs, and educational counseling groups geared to special life situations.

North Shore Child & Family Guidance is also a major training and consultation facility for professionals serving children and their families, as well as an important community resource for parents offering education and consultation on both normal development and crisis issues.

Science Museum of Long Island

The mission of the Science Museum of Long Island (SMLI) is to:

  • Stimulate and nurture children's natural interest in science and help them to discover the power of science through the fun of science.
  • Provide science education through hands-on learning.
  • Elevate the level of science literacy.

Towards the mission the Science Museum of Long Island is primarily dedicated to experiential science education for children. SMLI does this by presenting educational program, conducting field explorations, and participating in research.

For over 40 years, TRI has been providing vocational, educational, and related services to persons with learning, emotional and physical disabilities, so that they may achieve their highest level of independence. TRI has also developed transitional services for adolescents who are disabled and have not benefited from the traditional educational settings. TRI provides vocational assessment, career guidance, vocational training, work-study, internships and job placement, job coaching and follow-up. TRI also provides group counseling, social skills training, individualized teaching and academic remediation.
